Mac repair, answered.
Direct answers to the questions we get asked most.
General
Where is Mac Repairs Blackpool based?
We work from a studio in Cleveleys, FY5 1RY, on the Fylde Coast. Customers can drop their Mac in to the workshop or arrange an onsite visit across Blackpool, Cleveleys, Lytham, Fleetwood, Poulton, Kirkham, Preston, Lancaster, Morecambe and Blackburn.
Do you only repair Apple products?
Yes. We're Apple specialists. We work exclusively on Macs (iMac, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, Mac Pro) and other Apple hardware. We don't work on Windows PCs or non-Apple devices because focusing only on Apple is what lets us be properly good at it.
Do you use genuine Apple parts?
Yes. We use 100% genuine OEM Apple parts where they're available. We don't fit aftermarket components that compromise reliability or void Apple's compatibility. Every repair using genuine parts is backed by a 90 day warranty on parts and labour.
What warranty do you offer on repairs?
90 days on parts and labour for every repair. If the same fault recurs within 90 days, we put it right at no further cost. The warranty covers the specific repair carried out, not unrelated issues that develop later.
Pricing
What is your diagnostic fee?
£75. We charge it when the fault isn't obvious from a phone description and we need to open up the Mac to assess. If you go ahead with the repair, the £75 is deducted from the repair cost. If you choose not to proceed, the £75 covers the time spent diagnosing.
Do you offer fixed quotes before starting work?
Yes. After diagnostic, we provide a written quote covering parts, labour and turnaround. We don't start work until you've approved it. If we find something else during the repair, we stop and quote that separately before continuing.
How and when do I pay for the repair?
Payment is taken on collection, once the repair is complete and you're satisfied. We accept card payment and bank transfer. For business onsite visits, we can invoice for payment within 14 days.
Process
How long do repairs typically take?
Most repairs are back with you in 24 to 48 hours once parts are in stock. Common parts (MacBook batteries, screens, keyboards) are usually held. Less common parts (specific iMac logic boards, older model components) can take 3 to 7 days to source.
How do I book a repair?
Phone us on 01253 445032 or 07873 170729, or send a message via the contact form. We'll discuss the symptoms, give an indicative quote where we can, and arrange either a workshop drop-off or an onsite visit. No appointment needed for workshop drop-off during opening hours.
Will my data be safe during the repair?
Yes. We don't access user data unless the repair specifically requires it (data recovery jobs, or password resets you've authorised). For storage-related work we recommend you have a current backup, but we treat every machine's data with the discretion you'd expect.
What happens if my Mac is beyond economical repair?
We tell you honestly, with a written assessment. You pay only the diagnostic fee. We can quote on data recovery from the failed machine if needed, and we offer trade-in credit against a refurbished replacement from our sales side.
MacBook
Can you fix a MacBook with liquid damage?
Often yes, depending on what was spilled, how much, and how quickly the machine was powered down. We diagnose, ultrasonic-clean the logic board and components, and repair or replace damaged parts. Liquid damage outcomes are case-by-case and we give an honest assessment before quoting.
Can you replace the battery on an Apple silicon MacBook (M1, M2, M3, M4)?
Yes. We replace MacBook batteries across all Apple silicon generations (M1, M2, M3, M4) and the earlier Intel models. We use genuine Apple cells, calibrate the new battery to the system, and your MacBook leaves with proper full-day battery life restored.
Can you replace a cracked MacBook screen?
Yes. We replace MacBook Air and MacBook Pro screens across all generations, including the Retina and Liquid Retina XDR displays. Most screen replacements are turned around in 24 to 48 hours once parts are confirmed in stock.
iMac
Can you fix vertical lines on an iMac screen?
Usually yes. Vertical lines on iMac displays are typically caused by a failed GPU, a faulty display cable, or a panel fault. We diagnose which, and either repair the cable, replace the panel, or address the GPU depending on the iMac generation and what's economical.
Can you replace the screen on an iMac?
Yes. iMac displays are bonded to the chassis, so it's a delicate job, but we replace them across the 21.5-inch and 27-inch Retina models, and the older non-Retina iMacs. Genuine Apple panels where available.
Can you upgrade RAM on an iMac?
Depends on the model. Most pre-2020 iMacs have user-accessible RAM that we can upgrade. The 24-inch Apple silicon iMacs have unified memory soldered to the SoC, so RAM is fixed at the configuration the iMac was bought with and can't be upgraded.
Data recovery
Can you recover data from a Mac that won't turn on?
Usually yes. We assess whether the failure is at the logic board, power, or storage level. If the drive itself is intact, we can image it and recover files even if the rest of the machine is unrecoverable. For physically damaged drives (failed mechanical or controller-level failures), we work case-by-case.
Can you recover data from a water-damaged Mac?
Often yes, with the caveat that water damage outcomes vary. Speed matters: the sooner the machine is powered off and brought to us, the better the odds. We diagnose, clean, and either bring the original drive back online or recover the data via direct chip-off methods on Apple silicon Macs.
Business
Do you do onsite repairs at our business?
Yes. We cover the Fylde, Lancashire and parts of Greater Manchester for business onsite work. Common jobs include new Mac rollouts, multi-Mac migrations, network setup, and rapid-response troubleshooting where bringing the kit to the workshop isn't practical.
Do you offer support contracts for businesses?
Yes, on a flexible basis. For small businesses with 5 to 30 Macs we offer monthly retainer support covering scheduled maintenance, on-call troubleshooting, new-machine setup and migrations. Call to discuss rates against your team size.
Question we haven't answered?
Pick up the phone, we don't bite. Diagnostic is £75, deducted from any repair you go ahead with.
